Easy Settle
Scope
Create an app that solves a problem.
Problem we wanted to solve
It’s limited help and information offered when relocating to Karlskrona as an international student. Many students don't find housing til the start of their program and cannot join on site for weeks. Lack of information around administrational processes creates frustration and feelings of loneliness.
Process
Qualitative research - User interviews
User journey
Affinity mapping
Card sorting for IA
Information architecture

Prototyping
Team
5 UX design students (from Brazil, South Africa, Iran and Sweden).
My role
Conducting interviews, leading the affinity mapping, card sorting, information architecture and UI.
Discovery phase
Interviews and affinity mapping gave us insights of the problem and an understanding of the international students, that helped us to map out their user journey, and discover areas of possible innovation.
Ideation
Based on the research, we mapped out necessary features for our app that would cater for the needs of our users. We used card sorting to understand how our users would intuitively navigate within the app.
Development
With the information architecture as our road map, we made a userflow as a base for the wireframing. The outcome of this careful step-by step approach was a smooth sailing process in which everyone of the team could follow and be on board.
Wireframing and prototyping
We used UX best practices, accessibility and competitor analysis to develop the wireframs and prototype. We designed a few different variations before finally settling on the ones you can see below. It was my first time in Figma.
Learnings
This was a made up case and my first project in which I went through the whole design process. It was a great and important part of my learning journey to see the product unfold and develop with each method that we explored.
It was a very diverse team with different levels of experience and understanding, which fostered practice in communication and empathy, as well as the need of a clear step-by-step process to keep everyone aligned. We ended up collaborating very well and came up with a product that we felt proud of.
